I think part of what makes a business successful is the amount of fun that a person finds in doing that business. I find it fun when I have conversations where I learn what people are doing with their business and I find it fun to help people solve their business problems as well. The enjoyment I take out of doing these activities is key to what keeps me motivated to do my business.
I think that when we don’t find what we do fun it stops us from really making the most of the business we are running. We get caught up in the problems, get weighed down by doing things we don’t want to do, and otherwise lose out on achieving what we could really accomplish.
Doing what you love is why you decided to run a business, and its also why you’ve continued to run your business, but if the fun is getting sucked away it’s time to reevaluate what makes you do what you’re doing. Money is obviously important, but enjoying your business is easily as important. Consider the following questions:
What do I enjoy doing the most in my business?
What do I enjoy doing the least in my business?
What motivates me to get started with my work?
Do I find this work meaningful?
That last question is the most important one to ask, because if you don’t find your work or business meaningful, chances are you don’t enjoy it. What we find meaningful is what we find valuable and that value is what motivates us.
What can I do to make my business or work more enjoyable?
