Commitment: an integral ingredient to success
Commitment: It’s a word dreaded in romantic relationships when someone isn’t ready to go the long distance, but in this case, I’m talking about businesses, and specifically about business owners making a commitment. In coaching, one of the ingredients toward making coaching successful involves the client committing to a period of time to allow for the realizations and changes that need to occur for the client to move past the obstacles holding him/her back.
Similarly for a business to succeed, the business owner needs to commit to that success…not just when everything is going well, but also when it’s not going well, money isn’t flowing in, and the business owner wonders why s/he chose to do what s/he is doing.
One of the reasons I’ve started using a contract with my clients is because it involves both of us making a commitment to each other. They are making a financial commitment and a time commitment that they will work with me and work on the steps I provide them to help them move forward with their business. I’m also making a commitment, of my time, and also my resources to help bring that client to a place of success.
Commitment really means persistence, a willingness to see a situation through. We need commitment to succeed, although we also need other qualities as well. But commitment is one of the foundations of success. It enables us to get to that place where we can use those other qualities we need. It’s important, right at the start, to decide how committed you can really be to whatever it is you’re doing. If you feel hesitant, then consider that a sign that you might want rethink what you are doing. But if you feel sure of what you are doing, committed, then follow through and go ahead with it.

Hi John,
Recognizing that all of it is a relationship of equality with each person making a commitment is key to realizing the value of each person who does make a commitment.
Hi Taylor,
Great post. I always knew being committed was important in all aspects of life, and now in business, working with you has given me the vision of how to make sure that the folks I work with in my business are committed to me as much as I am committed to them. We need to value each other's time and resources and make sure it's a relationship of equality. I am committed in my business and know there will be ups and downs, but I'll do what I can to make it through. Thanks.
John
