Lessons learned from Re-Branding

I’ve been working on the re-branding of my business since January, and I’ve learned a lot. I’m still in that process of rebranding, in terms of website appearance, cards, and logos, but the business itself has shifted to holistic business coaching and I’ve never been so happy in my life.

Re-brand to fit your passion. Chances are that if you are re-branding you’re doing it because you are unhappy with your business as it is, and you want to make a change. I think before you re-brand its worth exploring why you’re unhappy, but if you come to a conclusion that you simply don’t enjoy what you do, its time to rebrand. As such its better to rebrand your business in a direction you feel passionate about, as opposed to just rebranding your business toward something that will make money. While bringing in an income is important, its equally important that you do something you genuinely enjoy.

Re-branding takes time. Re-branding doesn’t happen over night. Even before I started officially re-branding I was laying ground work that would enable me to do the re-branding. And six weeks into re-branding and I still have a ways to go. It takes time, but if you are clear on your message and clear that you are changing your business, even if all the re-branding isn’t done you’ll still come out ahead.

Be consistent with your re-branding. It’s very important to not be wishy washy about your re-branding. If you aren’t doing what you used to do, be clear about that be consistent with your new message. It’s better to stick with the change then go back and forth about it. You’ll confuse people and you won’t get much business as a result.

Embrace your re-branding. Think of your re-branding as an opportunity to re-create who you are, as well as your business. Embrace it as a growing opportunity and have fun with it. The whole point is to do something different and rediscover yourself as a result of doing so.

I have no doubt I’ll have more learning experiences as I continue in this adventure with my business. In the meantime, I’m going to have fun and grow my business doing something I love.
