Know Your Business to Know Your Success

The first episode of Social Media Coach radio is available to be listened to. It’s my latest radio show. It won’t replace the imagine your reality radio show, but will focus in more depth on social media.

My latest article on Twitter asks the Question: Are you really on Twitter?

And check out this article on social media marketing ROI. The biggest issue it points out is you can’t measure effectiveness if you don’t have a strategy in place for using social media. Seems like common sense, right? But if that’s the case why aren’t businesses formulating strategies? Probably because they are focusing more on the technology and numbers and less on building the relationships.

Know Your business to Know Your Success

I have a saying that I like to apply to businesses: “Know your Business to Know Your Success.” It’s fairly simple really. If you know your business, both where you are strong and where you are weak, you can than know your success. If you only know your strengths, then you’ll succeed sometimes. If you only know your failures, then you’ll never succeed.

Knowing your business doesn’t just consist of knowing who your ideal client would be (though that’s a major component). It also consists of knowing what your management policies are, how you organize and keep yourself disciplined, where you go networking, and a variety of other facets which left unfocused on, can quickly bring your business down.

Writing a business plan, doing a vision board, and related activities help to clarify your goals and objectives, and set up a strategy that helps you map out where you’d like your business to be. Checking your business plan every three months, and assessing your business overall is an even better practice. It allows you to pick out problem areas in your business, where you could use some improvement. You can then determine your tactics for improving this problem area, while continuing to leverage your strengths in your business.

Knowing your business means you work on your business, even as you work for your clients. There’s always something you can do to work on your business, because there’s always room for improvement. By keeping up with where your business model can improve you help yourself stay on top of your business and also provide the best possible service to your clients. You know your business, and so you know success!
